Auto Growth runs the marketing for 100+ automotive businesses. We need one dependable remote bookkeeper in South Africa for 2–4 hours a day — UK VAT returns, Xero, Hubdoc and the day-to-day, owned properly. Work from wherever suits you.
Who can apply
You must live in South Africa and be legally able to work as an independent contractor. The books are UK books, so your hours need to overlap UK business hours — and load-shedding can't stop a VAT deadline.

This role is for you if:
- You've prepared and submitted UK VAT returns yourself, not just handed figures to someone else
- Xero and Hubdoc are second nature — you could take over a messy set of books and tidy them
- You're happy chasing receipts politely and repeatedly until they arrive
- You can work 2–4 focused hours a day inside UK business hours, every weekday
- You're set up as an independent contractor (or happy to be) and invoice monthly
This probably isn't for you if:
- You've only worked under supervision with someone else reviewing every VAT submission
- You can only work in occasional blocks, not most weekdays
- You'd rather wait to be told what needs doing than own the calendar yourself
- You have no backup power or reliable connectivity — a UK VAT deadline can't wait for the grid
The role
What you'll actually be doing
UK VAT, start to finish
Prepare, check and submit quarterly VAT returns under MTD. You know the reverse charge, the deadlines and what HMRC will query.
Receipt collection & Hubdoc
Chase the paperwork, publish every receipt into Hubdoc, and make sure nothing hits the books uncoded or unsupported.
Day-to-day Xero
Bank reconciliation, Stripe payouts, supplier bills, sales invoices, credit control and a clean ledger every single week.
Deadlines that never slip
VAT quarters, payroll journals, year-end handover to the accountant. You track them; nobody has to remind you.
Plain-English reporting
A short monthly summary the founder can read in two minutes: cash in, cash out, what's owed, what's due next.

Inside UK business hours (SAST is only 1–2 hours ahead).

Work from anywhere in South Africa. Fibre plus backup power required — a UK VAT deadline can't wait for the grid.
